Redesigned with insight from elite mountaineers, the Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero™ Suit meets the demands of the world’s harshest environments. Built using advanced Pertex fabrics, it delivers the protection, durability, and warmth required for high-altitude expeditions and extreme cold.
“We’ve used Pertex fabrics in our Absolute Zero™ products for years. Their unique yarns and weaving capabilities are as good as it gets, and we’ve formed a great collaborative relationship, developing and innovating products together.” Ben Guthrie, MHW Equipment & Accessories Design Director, reflects.
At its core, the Absolute Zero Suit utilises premium 800-fill RDS-certified goose down, delivering exceptional loft and thermal efficiency. By trapping warm air, the goose down insulation delivers outstanding performance in cold conditions whilst remaining lightweight.
The Absolute Zero Suit uses a combination of Pertex fabrics to create a strategically mapped system that balances weather protection, breathability, and durability. Pertex Quantum Pro is used across the torso to provide a lightweight yet durable outer with enhanced water resistance. Its tightly woven structure allows the down to fully loft while protecting against wind, snow, and spindrift.
In high-wear and more exposed areas, the suit uses 2-layer Pertex Shield with Diamond Fuse technology. The Shield membrane creates a waterproof and windproof barrier and the face fabric with Diamond Fuse technology improves abrasion resistance without increasing bulk. The result is durable protection that withstands contact with rock, ice, and equipment, while still allowing moisture vapour to escape during movement.

Together, these fabrics create a protective system that works with the body and protects against harsh conditions while allowing internal moisture to move away. This balance is essential for maintaining comfort over long periods in extreme environments. The Absolute Zero™ Suit is designed with expedition functionality at its core. A full-length centre zip allows for quick entry and exit, while additional side zips provide ventilation and make it easier to use when wearing harnesses or mountaineering boots. Reinforced panels in high-wear areas enhance durability, ensuring the suit performs in demanding terrain.
Its articulated construction provides freedom of movement when climbing or navigating technical routes. The insulated hood is helmet-compatible and designed to seal in warmth, while internal draft baffles minimise heat loss in extreme cold. Elasticated cuffs and integrated booties further prevent cold air ingress, maintaining a consistent microclimate within the suit.
From high-altitude peaks to polar landscapes, the Absolute Zero Suit represents the pinnacle of high-altitude apparel design. By combining advanced Pertex fabrics with expedition-proven construction and premium down insulation, it delivers reliable performance in the most hostile environments on Earth.
