Washing and Aftercare

Quantum

Equilibrium

Regular washing and care will help maintain the performance and longevity of your Pertex Quantum, Pertex Quantum Air or Pertex Quantum Pro garment. Follow these simple steps to ensure your jacket stays remains fully functional and ready for your next adventure. Before proceeding, always read the care label inside your garment for specific instructions. For expedition down garments and sleeping bags, we advise professional cleaning.

Step 1
Prepare

We recommend using a front-loading washing machine. Before washing, run an empty rinse cycle to clear any detergent residue from your machine. Empty all pockets, close zips and fastenings, and turn the jacket inside out to protect zippers, toggles and the outer fabric from snagging.

Step 2
Wash

For insulated garments, use a specialist technical down wash product such as Grangers Down Wash, for windshells, use a product such as Grangers Performance Wash. Allow the cycle to run with a thorough rinse, then finish with a gentle spin to remove as much water as possible.

Step 3
After wash

Windshells can be line-dried, but for down or synthetic insulated garments, we recommend tumble drying. Carefully remove the jacket from the machine and tumble dry on a low to mid heat. Pause the cycle occasionally to check the jacket, giving it a light shake or pat to help the down separate and dry evenly before continuing. Ensure the product is thoroughly dry.

Caring for your Pertex Shield, Pertex Shield Pro or Pertex Shield Air waterproof product properly ensures it stays breathable, waterproof, and durable for many seasons. Regular washing removes dirt, oils, and other contaminants — preserving both the waterproof membrane and the durable water-repellent (DWR) finish. Before proceeding, always read the care label inside your garment for specific instructions.

Step 2
Wash

Use a technical detergent designed for technical outerwear such as Grangers Performance Wash. Wash on a gentle cycle on a cool setting and include an extra rinse cycle to remove all detergent residue.

Step 3
After wash

If possible, we recommend tumble drying on a low setting, this will reactivate the DWR finish. After repeated washes, the factory DWR finish will become less effective. If water no longer beads up, reapply a DWR treatment using a wash-in or spray-on repellency product such as Grangers Performance Repel Plus.
